Benefits for Students

Traditionally, education has focused on what students study—the objective aspect of knowledge—without systematically developing the subjective basis of knowledge, the student’s consciousness. The Transcendental Meditation technique expands the consciousness of each student, significantly increasing their intelligence, creativity, confidence, inner calm, and motivation—all fundamental to successful learning.

“TM really helps. When you’re stressed out from school, it makes you fresher and brighter. At the end of a long day, I meditate and can still focus on my homework.”
—Nalina Loiselle, First Year College Student

Universal Application

Research on the Transcendental Meditation program shows that it is effective for students of all ages, whether studying at the elementary, secondary, college or postgraduate levels. Regular practice of the technique brings improved learning ability, decreased stress and tension, and greater self-development.

Improved Learning Ability

Scientific research verifies that the Transcendental Meditation program develops increasing use of the total brain. Students practicing the Transcendental Meditation enjoy:

  • Development of hidden brain reserves, greater creativity, higher IQ
  • More efficiency in learning new concepts, improved academic achievement, better grades
  • Improved standardized test scores on general academic achievement, social studies, literary materials, reading, mathematics, language, and work study skills.

The TM Program and ADHD

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobehavioral disorder, and is among the most prevalent chronic health conditions affecting school-aged children. Stress and anxiousness negatively affect behavior and can be a cause of ADHD symptoms. Research has shown that the Transcendental Meditation technique significantly reduces stress and anxiety in children and adults with ADHD, improving attention, focus, behavior, and impulse control.

The ADHD and the TM Program website provides in a question and answer format an overview of ADHD and why the Transcendental Meditation technique is beneficial. The site also includes video interviews of students and teachers (see links to videos at the top of this page), news coverage and feature stories, and a summary of research.
