How to learn the TM technique
The Transcendental Meditation technique is taught over four consecutive days. Only certified TM teachers teach the authentic TM technique that can enrich the entirety of your life.

Steps to learning the TM technique

Or if you prefer:
- Watch a pre-recorded video(under 20 minutes), or
- Attend a live info session with a TM teacher(approximately 1 hour)
When you feel ready to learn,
You will be able to choose:
- A TM Center close to you
- A course with a time and date that fits your schedule. If there are no convenient times, you'll be able to contact a local teacher to discover other options.
- The format of the TM course that works best for you: A. The "in-person" course, or B: The "hybrid" course: a mix of in-person and remote learning
After booking the course, you will receive additional information and be asked to schedule a preparatory call or meeting with your teacher.
The TM course takes place over 4 consecutive days, each with a session that lasts 1.5-2 hours.
- Whether you choose the in-person course or the hybrid course, Day 1 is in-person instruction in the Transcendental Meditation technique.
- Days 2, 3, and 4 provide verification of correct practice and an in-depth understanding of your meditation practice. In the in-person course, these days are conducted with your teacher and other students. The hybrid course is a combination of self-guided learning and a remote session with your teacher and other students.
- A 10-day and a 20-day meeting are included in the course to verify correct practice and provide more knowledge.
After completing your TM course, you will be self-sufficient and able to practice TM on your own, anywhere, anytime. However, you will always have access to continued guidance from any TM teacher throughout the United States and most countries in the world.
You will also have access to the TM app, even if you did not take the hybrid course. There, you will have a convenient timer for your meditations, access to videos, online TM events, and much more.

TM course Day 1: Personal Instruction
The TM course always begins the same way: with an in-person, personalized, private session with a certified TM teacher. In this one-on-one, 1-1.5 hour lesson you will receive your mantra and instructions on how to use it in order to meditate correctly. By the end of this session, you will be able to meditate on your own at home.
Days 2-4 — Choose an option:

A. In-person course
The in-person course lets you take advantage of more interaction and engagement with your TM teacher and benefit from a more structured schedule.
During the days 2, 3, and 4 of the in-person course, you will attend meetings each day with your TM teacher and other new students. These meetings typically last between 1.5-2 hours.

B. Hybrid course
The hybrid course gives you the flexibility to learn at home, at your own pace, according to your schedule. There are two remote elements during Days 2-4: • Self-guided learning where you will review interactive content in the TM app, which takes about 6 hours to complete. If you can't finish it all within 4 days, we ask that you complete it within 8 days. • An online meeting each day with your TM teacher and other new students.
Whether you take the in-person course or the hybrid course, you will learn:
• How to know if you’re meditating correctly • The mechanics of the TM technique • How to fit meditation into your life • What do different experiences during the TM practice mean and how to respond to them • What you can look forward to with regular practice. After the 4 days of learning, there are two additional sessions that are part of your course—the 10-day and 20-day meetings. There, your teacher will confirm that you are meditating correctly, answer questions, inform you about further opportunities, and lead a group meditation.
