Cliff learned the TM technique in Boulder, Colorado in 1970 inspired by the Beatles practicing TM. He enjoyed TM so much that he attended TM teacher training in 1973 on the Atlantic Ocean in Southern Spain. While attending the University of Colorado he ran the TM Center on campus. In 1983 he moved to Hawaii and has taught TM with his wife ever since. Highlights of his experiences include teaching TM to over 500 people, being involved in a Native Hawaiian study on the Big Island demonstrating a reduction in blood pressure for the participants. More recently in conjunction with the David Lynch Foundation (davidlynchfoundation.org) he has been teaching TM to medical doctors to help reduce their stress at a major medical center in Honolulu.
